Weekly College Update

Dear Senior Huskies, Snow Leopards, Bulldogs, and Thunderbirds,

I’m very excited to announce that over 90% of you seniors now have been accepted to college! Also, a huge congratulations to Summit Prep where100% of senior Huskies now have been accepted to college! These are huge accomplishments and I am so proud of you all. We have a lot to be thankful for as we head into spring break.

This week’s focus is spring break to-do’s for college.

I hope that you will all get some good rest over the next week we have off of school. In addition, I hope you will use this time to be productive and do some important college-related action items.

  • Submit FAFSA corrections after your parents file their 2015 taxes.

    • When we filled out the FAFSA back in January, most of you used estimates because your parents hadn’t filed their 2015 taxes yet. That means you need to go back and submit updates and corrections to your FAFSA once your parents have filed their 2015 tax return. Check out this helpful video from UC Merced that walks you through the FAFSA correction process.

  • Get on track in your classes.

    • With all the excitement around next year, it can be easy to forget that you still have to finish and graduate high school this year! Your mentors, teachers, and parents all want to see you walk across that stage in June. This is the last big break you have before then, so use it wisely to get caught up if you’ve fallen behind.

  • Visit college campuses.

    • If you’re trying to make a tough decision between schools, visiting the campuses can be a great way to help you make your decision. Take a tour, talk to current students, and even sit in on a class if possible.

  • Apply for scholarships.

    • There are still scholarships with deadlines coming up this spring! It’s not too late to start applying. Check out this list below in the newsletter or one of the scholarship search engines on this resource.

Good luck accomplishing the things on your to-do list and have a great spring break!

Respectfully,

Ms. Hannon
